The Ruth Ann Hooey/Ruth Burritt Scholarship

Each year, church family members are encouraged to apply for funds from the Ruth Ann Hooey/Ruth Burritt Scholarship fund. This money is available for members who are beginning or continuing their study at an accredited institution, e.g. two-or four-year colleges, technical schools, business or nursing schools or graduate work.  Individuals undertaking retraining activities, part time or full time, are also invited to apply.  Students may apply even if they are already in school and also if they have applied in the past.

The Scholarship Committee will receive applications and consider personal goals, financial need, academic performance and service to school, church and community in awarding the scholarships. Awards will be paid directly to the students selected and all grants will remain anonymous.

Team responsibilities:

  • Determine the amount of scholarship funding available each year
  • Develop criteria for the best use of scholarship funds
  • Make final, confidential decisions on scholarship gifts
  • Award scholarships to participants of the church family who are beginning or continuing their studies at an accredited institution.
  • Inform the Congregation of the available scholarships, make applications available, receive and review applications, and select recipients.
  • Select one or more candidates for awards.
  • Recipient(s) of the scholarships will be kept anonymous save for the Scholarship Team and Treasurer. A Scholarship donor may request the recipient(s) names as well.
  • Candidates will be notified of their status in a timely manner.
  • All scholarship money will be paid directly to the recipient(s), who must furnish the Scholarship Team with proof of attendance at the educational institution.
