The Keyboardist provides service music and accompaniment for worship services and choir rehearsals, either on the church’s piano or organ.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborates with the Pastor, Choir Director, and Worship & Music team to ensure high-quality music is provided for all worship services.
  2. Rehearse with the choir at all practices, generally on Wednesday nights from 7-8:15 and Sunday mornings from 9:15-9:45.
  3. Accompany the congregation and choir for Sunday services plus provide additional worship service music.
  4. Selects appropriate weekly service music based on the liturgical calendar and worship themes.
  5. Attends church staff meetings or meetings of the music staff when called.
  6. Has right of first refusal to play at weddings and funerals at the church.
  7. In case of illness or other absence, notifies a member of the Worship & Music or Personnel Team at least 24 hours in advance of worship.
  8. Complete required training, including annual sexual harassment policy review, within 30 days of notification.
  9. Alert music and church staff to any maintenance or repair needs for the church organ and pianos.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in church music, with demonstrated proficiency on organ and piano.
  2. Formal training in organ and piano performance, including sight-reading and accompaniment.
  3. An understanding of the role of music in worship and familiarity with traditional and contemporary hymnody and liturgical music.
  4. Attention to detail in musical execution and timeliness for rehearsals and services.
  5. Ability to build positive working relationships with the pastor, vocal choir and bell choir directors, vocal and bell choir members, church leadership, and congregants.

 

COMPENSATION

This is a seasonal part-time position. Pay is based on forty-four weeks from the first Sunday in September through the last Sunday in June. Weddings and funerals will be paid per event as arranged.

SUPERVISION AND ACCOUNTABILITY

This position is supervised by the Personnel Team, in consultation with the Worship & Music Team. The Keyboardist meets once yearly with the Personnel Committee to formally address any employment concerns. The Keyboardist may at any time request a meeting with the Personnel Team, and the Personnel Team may request a meeting at any time with the Keyboardist.

RESIGNATION

The Keyboardist is to provide a 30-day written notice to the Personnel Team and Administrative Board if they wish to end employment.
